Minutes of the HOS Meeting/June 15, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 PM by Peter Roney, MD, President of the HOS.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as distributed.


OLD BUSINESS:

Ophthalmology Spring Update: May 20, 21, 2006, at the Halekulani Hotel. Dr. Cheung - briefly went over the conference and commented that financially it was profitable, although poor attendance. Next year, 2007, the meeting will be moved to February 3 and 4.

NEW BUSINESS:

Legislative Update: Jon Portis, no new update.

Steve Clason commented that the Society members should consider supporting Ed Case for office. He supported the ophthalmologists throughout the years. Members may send checks to Dr. Clason’s office and he will forward them on to Ed Case’s Campaign headquarters.

Treasurer’s Report No treasurer’s report

Third Party Reimbursement: Dr. Byron Wong – no new report.

Academy Fusarium keratitis statement – AAO has come out with information for patients. Next month will be “Save Your Sight Month”.

Code Quest: Dr. McDevitt queried the membership regarding interest for Code Quest this year. This would be approximately October 14. A minimum of 40 attendees is required. 6 hours of CME is granted.
The membership can vote at the next meeting.

CME Coordinator Anne Taylor will no longer be CME coordinator after July 20 meeting. Alternate candidates are welcome to send resume to HOS President Peter Roney. Discussion whether the HOS should have CME for each meeting was discussed. Because of the large amount of paperwork involved, and payment to the HMA, it was felt to discontinue CME credit at each meeting. This will be discussed at the next meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Speaker for next meeting: Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 3660 On the Rise. The speaker will be Dr. John Olkowski, on “Endothelial keratoplasty”.

Speaker: Joyce Cassen, MD, presented a talk entitled, “Botox”, with a “final exam” slide at the end. Her talk was well-received by the membership.


ADJOURNMENT:

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.
